What is your job?
I am a photographer and film maker [and] CEO of U.N.I.T.E. (U Neva Imagined This Entertainment) [a local media entertainment and film production company].
As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I always wanted to be a child and never really wanted to grow up because I found grown up life to be boring. The only thing I wanted to do was to drive because I loved cars and racing.
What are your qualifications/ experience?
I have been involved in film and video production for over a decade now; never went to film school but was self taught and picked up the experience along the way.
What do you consider your greatest achievement(s) to date?
My greatest achievement was becoming a father. Now I can keep my childhood dream of never growing up by living vicariously through my son, Sky. I also worked on Survivor
and travelled to Africa and Brazil. I am currently the Director of Photography for Dominica’s Nature Island Challenge
which gets aired on NBC World of Adventure Sports
and other networks in the US and the Caribbean.
What was your big break?
I am still on the hustle 24-7 so I don’t think I have had that big break yet but I am confident that if I keep the hustle on then it will come. Right now I am just planning the work and working the plan.
What major event propelled you into your career?
I think after working as an assistant camera operator on Pirate Master
in 2006. It [pushed] me to take this industry very seriously, as there was a plethora of highly specialised and skilled positions within a film production crew… [B]eing an [assistant camera operator] for one of the best reality camera operators in the world, was a great opportunity so I decided to focus more on [the] audio visual aspect of my business and move away from event management and promotions.
What projects have you completed lately?
Just finished doing a day of aerial drone shooting with my friend and drone pilot Nixon George for a House Hunters International
episode on HGTV. Right now I am scouting locations for the next Nature Island Challenge
of which I am the Director of Photography. Last year I did an infomercial for the Office of the National Authorizing Officer (NAO) on the Banana Accompanying Measures (B.A.M) which was a challenge because of the time frame in which I had to pull it off. At the end of the day it was done and my clients were happy, so I am happy.
Do you have any hobbies?
I love RCs (remote control) and have a range of different RC operated vehicles cars, 4x4 trucks and buggies, boats and a quadcopter drone which I use for work to do aerial cinematography.
Where do you see yourself in the next five years?
In the next five years I would like to have done or been involved in the creation of documentary film or short films that tells our story here in the Caribbean. I would also like to keep on working on international projects.
I hope one day to be able to do more creative stuff and help build a solid film industry here on the island. I have also interest in location scouting and management for foreign based crews visiting which is where the real money is on island, as local clients are not really interested paying for the high quality and production value that I want to bring, so working with foreign crews will afford me the opportunity to do more creative projects from U.N.I.T.E.
I also would like to work on regional projects within CARICOM.
